After casting off its mobile business, Nokia can now concentrate on the profit making arms – networking equipment, intellectual property licensing and mapping. The remaining businesses are bringing in impressive profits. Nokia has been flogging the innovation card for a while now with good reason. HERE maps for example has benefitted from several acquisitions since 2007 and is currently shifting its great weight in the automotives space. Nokia Growth Partners has just set aside $100 mn for the connected car which it views as a new platform for technology adoption.
NGP is targetting smart travel which includes routing, booking and ticketing; consumer services (infotainment and driver assistance), systems (telematics, sensors and intelligent driving) and enablers (fleet management and mapping).
