ARM Holdings is determined to keep its 90 percent market share of mid-range mobile device markets. The company has a new chip, Cortex A-12 processor, a 28 nm chip optimized for smartphones selling for $200 to $350. The Cortex A-12 processor delivers 40 percent more performance than the Cortex A-9 using the same amount of energy. Devices using Cortex A-12 processors are expected on the market by mid-2014. ARM projects that by 2015 there will be half a billion mid-range mobile devices a year. ARM chips dominate the mobile market with the company licensing its designs to Qualcomm Inc and Samsung.
