In 2015, PayTV service provider StarTimes acquired exclusive rights for two years to broadcast the International World Rally Championships, the World Boxing Titles and Germany football league, the Bundesliga. A few weeks later, StarTimes also acquired the rights to broadcast the Italian League, Serie A. The move was meant to woo sports fans, who for the longest time relied on MultiChoice’s DSTV for Sports content.
StarTimes has now signed a media rights agreement with MediaMax Network Limited that will allow its television broadcast channel K24 to broadcast selected Italian Serie A league games, previews and highlight shows per match day. The exclusive right for the matches by free-to air rights will allow K24 to air 38 LIVE Serie A matches for the 2015/16 season. Consumers will just need to tune to K24 and watch the content for free as per the deal.
StarTimes has acquired exclusive broadcast rights for The Italian Serie A for the next three seasons (2015-2018). StarTimes recently announced it signed a deal that will see the PayTV service provider broadcast popular tennis tournament. StarTimes acquired the all platform rights of 2016 in Sub-Saharan African and will broadcast the matches exclusively in the Anglo and Linguaphone countries. The tournaments include Hopman Cup, Fast 4 Tennis and World Tennis Cup. The matches will broadcast throughout the month of January on Sports Premium Channel 252.
