Nokia 801, a Symbian Belle Phone on the rumour mill

I wouldnt be surprised to have most off Nokia phones bearing the same physical design and also sharing hardware specs. Here is one off the rumour mill bakery. A Nokia 801 according to Smartphone Geeks. According to their “reliable sources”, it features a 4 inch AMOLED Clear Black screen, 640 by 360 pix resolution, 1.4GHz processor and 512 RAM, a 12megapixel Autofocus camera with dual-LED flash, 1080p video recording and the Lumia like polycarbonate cover. But if am not wrong there was a rumour sometime earlier that Nokia N8′s predecessor will be a 16mp camera phone, but ofcourse these things can change, so we will just have to wait and see if this rumour will have some better backing. Eldar Murtazin’s confirming of Nokia devices has come to face critiszm of them actually turning out to be true, I would believe it if it were a Samsung Device he were confirming. But either way, if it were true and it were also true its the last Symbian^3 phone then it would only be easy to expect it to launch on Nokia Carla, which has already leaked snapshots.

A white Lumia 800, not a bad thing

Nokia has just showed a teaser on their Facebook page that is a clear teaser of a white Lumia 800 coming. Well, it looks like they listened to critics about the previous teaser about a pink Lumia 800. A white one aint bad after-all, I would use it, though I prefer dark colours on phones. The sequence of the shots show existing phone colours, cyan, magenta and black with their matching nail polish colours, so its beyond anyone’s guess that they have plans to release a white one.

Hold up! They have also updated the colour availability list to include white on the product page, so yes! Its official!

66% of LTE phones in South Korea are Samsung, thanx to Galaxy Note

Samsung has already shipped 0ne million Galaxy Note phones globally and in the local market of South Korea they have sold 700,000 Galaxy Note Devices. This is the phone that reviews and analysts havent yet fixed a category to since its larger than all smartphones and smaller than usual tablets at 5.3 inches. Apparently the device is winning because of the Stylus Pen selling point that gives it the notes taking edge. See a recent survey of readiness of mobile phone users to write on a smartphone. Study was carried on 5000 smartphone users in 10 countries and was conducted online by Snap Surveys, a member of the UK Market Research Society (MRS), theAmerican Marketing Association (AMA), and the Marketing Research Association (MRA), in partnership with panel providers in international markets.

The Galaxy Note is expected to Launch in the US very soon and in Kenya its launching this month. The US launch is excpected to trigger the rise of numbers of unit sales.

Going Green? British Student to launch Bamboo phone

Kieron Scott-Woodhouse Middlesex University 23 year old student is going to launch a smartphone made from 4 year old Bamboo. The Android smartphone named ADzero will have organically grown Bamboo that has been treated to boost durability. Funny that his surname is Woodhouse, and apparently he was inspired by the frustration of devices looking so similar to each other, decided to go different. He posted the designs online ans was contracted by a technology entrepreneur.

The smartphone was initially targeted for the Chinese market but may sell to the British. The phone is said to weigh half as much as an iphone and has a ring flash to make illumination of pictures even.

No talk of phone specs though. Looking at the pics we see a 3.5 mm jack and a USB port and the screen looks like its in the regions of 3.5 inch like the iphone 4.

Mobile World Congress is just days away, and leaks like these arent a new thing prior to such big events. After the confirmation by Samsung that they will not be launching Samsung Galaxy S III this month, this can be a truth. The press shot of a Samsung device that can only be called the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus has showed up just a few minutes on the twitter timeline from Eldar Murtazin, the editor of Mobile Review. Eldar went ahead to confirm the device name in a later tweet.

The device is so similar to Samsung Galaxy S II save for the fact that it sports Android Ice Cream and has the touch sensitive menu buttons like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. And as you can see on the image there is the text Mobile World Live Keynote. Galaxy S II is expected to don a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, Android Ice cream sandwich, Samsung TouchWiz and WVGA display. Screen size should be the same as Galaxy S II at 4.3 inch. Samsung teases again with Galaxy Note ad

Remember these faces? The Queue? Samsung is at it again with a superbowl ad teaser. The next big thing was clearly Samsung Galaxy S II. In this video its just a teaser, leaves you to make your assumptions as to the other big thing. The ad will be aired on February 5th on the next Super-bowl for 90 seconds.

Here in Kenya Samsung Galaxy note will be launching very soon, keep your eyes wide open, its currently selling at Kshs 70,000 ($840) . Oh! And I got info that we will be waiting another month to get Ice cream Sandwich on Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II.

Samsung announces NC110 Pororo Netbooks for children

Pororo is the name of the netbook that Samsung has announced. This netbook is targeted for children. Pororo was inspired by an animated cartoon series called Pororo The Little Penguin aired in South Korea and the cartoon characters are etched out of the box on the netbook back. NC110-Pororo comes preloaded with 12 Pororo the Little Penguin episodes, movies, Pororo puzzle games and colouring game, perfect for lower school level children. It is also capable of word processing and the only miltitasking feature available is playback of content.

The NC110-Pororo specs are Intel 2nd Generation dual-core Atom processor, a 10.1 inch display, Wi-Fi, HDMI and weighs 1.17kg. The NC110-Pororo netbook comes with a small carry bag.

The netbook will go on sale in South Korea from February 6 for 509,000 won ($452).

Samsung has released a Samsung Galaxy S II WIMAX Variant for the Japanese market. The device is a 4.7 inch Super AMOLED HD Display (720×1280) phone running Android 2.3. The processor is a 1.4GHz Dual-core and it has an 8MP back and 2MP front cameras, supports full HD recording, WI-FI, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC, GPS, 16 GB internal memory with 32 GB MicroSD support.

It also features the trademark Touchwiz 4.0 and icons are larger than on the Galaxy S II, because of the 4.7″ screen.

Intel classmate PCs, powered by the Intel Atom processors are designed for the classroom environment and withstand so many situations the classmate can expose it to. Not just the class but even very young users. The new version of this laptop was launched this week by Inteland have pretty many features to boast of. With the claim of ruggedness, improved battery life(upto 10 hours on a single charge, this is previously achieved on high end laptops which come with an extended battery) and a lower price point the laptop is very ideal for durability in the classroom. Couple that with the ruggedness (by this Intel has strengthened the corners for shock and vibration absorption, and a keyboard that can withstand prying fingers and improved water resistance).

An enhanced access management feature has also been added for teachers to see and monitor students’ access in school and at home.

Nokia breaks into US market with the 4.3 inch 4G LTE Lumia 900

Lumia 900 is the first Nokia Smartphone designed specifically for the US market, this phone was launched at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on the AT&T network exclusively (atleast for a few months). Nokia have finally built a 4.3 inch device, the Lumia 900. Lumia 900 launched for sale in the US market. This phone features a 4.3 inch Amoled ClearBlack display on the 4G LTE technology and is not only thinner than its predecessor the Lumia 800 with 0.45 inches, but it pocesses a front facing camera for video calls, albeit a 1 megapixel one. The back camera is an 8 mp Carl Zeiss camera with a dual led flash. Has an 1830 mAH battery. Processor is 1.4 GHz, single core. It features a 512 mb RAM and 14.5 GB internal storage, supplemented by Skydive cloud storage-no micro-SD cards slots. The Lumia 900 was launched on the second commercial release of Windows Mango 7.5 which supports LTE(Long Term Evolution).

Some of the value adds on the Lumia 900 out of the box include:

- The AT&T U-verse Mobile** app lets U-verse TV subscribers browse the U-verse TV program guide, schedule and manage their DVR recordings, and watch hit TV shows while on the go. The U-verse Mobile library includes more than 100 TV series and more than 700 TV shows from a variety of genres.

- Nokia Drive, available to download from Windows Phone Marketplace, provides free voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation with a dedicated in-car user interface that turns the Nokia Lumia 900 into a GPS navigation device.

- The exclusive ESPN sports hub is pre-loaded on Nokia Lumia smartphones, and provides a one-stop sports application for news, videos and scores.

- The CNN App for Windows Phones provides the latest news and video from CNN’s reporting around the globe and direct access to iReport, CNN’s participatory news community. Launching globally for free in the next month, the CNN App will be exclusive to Nokia users for 90 days.

- The Univision App will be exclusive to Nokia Lumia users in the U.S. and Puerto Rico for 18 months, delivering unique and exclusive Spanish-language content experiences, including Univision entertainment, sports and soccer coverage, plus news, cooking and local content for different U.S. markets – all in one App.

- A partnership with EA to bring over 20 of the world’s most popular games to the Windows Phone marketplace, coming first to Nokia Lumia devices.

This will be my first unboxing video, I have been saying I will do this but finally have mustered the courage to do it. Enjoy the video, its just one for me opening the box, showing the phone and peripherals, nothing much really. See what the phone selling at around Kshs 7000 has to offer. Bear with the video quality, am not a pro there, but you should get something off this new-in-the-Kenyan-Market dual sim phone.

Here is one phone I think will impress many, a phone built from the Galaxy Y B5510 but has an additional sim card like the Samsung Ch@t DUOS, on Android. Good for the budget spender who wants more off a phone, the two sim cards. The Android version details have not come out as yet, but the image from GSMArena shows it to have a front facing camera, a feature the Galaxy Y doesnt have. Otherwise physically it looka almost the same, qwerty and touch. My guess is it will feature Android 2.3, a 3.15 camera and a 2 mp front facing camera, 2.6 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen 256k colours , optical trackpad and ofcourse qwerty. A chat with Samsung Mobile boss for East and Central Africa Mr Manoj revealed that we should expect this phone in the first week of February.

One feature I expect to feature prominently is the dual sim standby, ofcourse speculation, a larger internal storage than the 160MB of the Galaxy Y and some more battery life than 1200mAh to support the standby of two sim cards. We can wait abit to figure out how much this one will cost.
