MPESA is one service that we get to enjoy using on the Safaricom network. Due to its importance, the platform needs to be serviced from time to time to make sure it runs well.

Today, Safaricom has announced another MPESA upgrade for this week which they have shared in a press release.

The upgrade will commence on Saturday 9th September 2017 at 10 PM and complete on Sunday 10th September 2017 at 11 AM. During this period, all M-PESA services will remain unavailable.

The upgrade will be done during the upcoming weekend at night so as to be as less disruptive as possible which gives time for people to plan themselves accordingly to avoid disappointment. ““Safaricom has put in place measures to ensure a smooth transition during the upgrade, which will provide our customers and partners with more features and capabilities in the future,”  Bob Collymore, CEO of Safaricom was quoted as saying.

Safaricom had their first major upgrade on MPESA over 2 years ago when they decided to host the MPESA servers in Kenya. This improved the speed of transactions that could be handled by the system. Currently more than 26 million customers make over 10.5 million transactions a day which is immense.

They have also been performing several upgrades over time to MPESA. The first one is the availability of MPESA APIs which could be big for businesses to integrate their businesses with MPESA. The second was the addition of MPESA services within the MySafaricom app which makes it easier for you to operate your MPESA account.
