Around April this year, Telkom Kenya had a market share of 7.4% which was a representation of 2.88 million Kenyans. The company has just announced that they have surpassed 3 million subscribers, a growth they attribute to the rebrand that happened close to two months ago.

Announcing the growth, Telkom Kenya’s CEO, Aldo Mareuse also announced that they will be offering free Telkom to Telkom calls over the weekend, “We believe in always moving with our customers. This is why we are celebrating this milestone with them by offering free calls within the network. We thank our customers for the support and renew our commitment to continue delivering unmatched value to our customers.”

The free calls will be available between Saturday July 29, 2017 at 12:00am and Sunday July 30, 2017. The offer is only valid for pre-paid subscribers.

The company also said that other voice and SMS rates remain unchanged at 3 bob per minute to other networks and SMS at 1 bob on-net and off-net. Subscribers on the Holla bundle will also continue calling for 1 shilling per minute to other networks.

Telkom Kenya has been going santa ever since the rebrand. The company has been offering 1GB for free per day to its 4G network users and WhatsApp for free to all their subscribers until 31 August, 2017.

Speaking of 4G, Telkom expanded its 4G network coverage to cover more town on Kenya bringing the coverage to a total to 28 towns.

What we have all been waiting for is the new mobile money service. Telkom already discontinued Orange Money since July 5, 2017 and have been teasing that their new platform will target the tech savvy and will also have an offering for enterprises.

Three million is a step, and we will be watching Telkom to see how things go in the future.
