We have seen several terror incidences all over the world and these terrorists use social media platforms like Facebook to spread their ideologies.

Well, Facebook wants this practice to end, as reported by CNN where the company has put forth a strong stance to make its platform “hostile” to terrorists.

“We want Facebook to be a hostile environment for terrorists,” Facebook’s Director of Policy, Simol Milner was quoted as saying. He also said that Facebook will work “aggressively” to remove terrorist content.

Milner also revealed extra steps Facebook will help in the fight against terrorism. “If we become aware of an emergency involving imminent harm to someone’s safety, we’ll notify law enforcement,” he said in a statement.

This decision comes after the recent terrorist attacks in Manchester during a concert and in London, which resulted into casualties. “We cannot allow this ideology the safe space it needs to breed, ” Theresa May, UK’s Prime Minister said regarding social networks like Facebook, “Yet this is precisely what the Internet and the big companies that provide Internet-based services provide.”

Internet companies have come under heavy pressure from governments to regulate vices like hate speech and rooting out terrorists. Facebook and Google have either combined forces or individually set out strategies to combat fake news, while others like Twitter have special teams that root out accounts that are conducting activities linked to terrorism.

The only thing that is not clear is how Facebook will be able to identify posts that are linked to terrorists, but you can assume it will be a combination of algorithms an the community supplying the company with info to weed the culprits out.
