Today, Uber has announced a surprising partnership with Snapchat where they will integrate one of the most defining features about the social network on its ride sharing apps

The ride sharing company announced a new feature in their app where riders will be able to add “special filters” thanks to an app integration with Snapchat.

“In our new rider app, we start with your destination so we can get you there as fast as possible and also tailor the journey to you,” Uber’s General Manager for East Africa, Loic Amado was quoted as saying. “But we also realize that you’re doing more than just going somewhere-you’re often going somewhere to meet someone. So we are rolling out an integration with Snapchat so you can unlock custom Uber filters.

To use the new filters, you have to be an existing Snapchat and Uber user. When you are on your Uber commute, you will see a Snapchat card on your feed. You’ll then continue to select the type of filter, take the actual selfie and swipe right. You’ll also be able to use these custom Uber filters with other Snapchat lenses to make your Story more interesting.

Uber gives you a selection of filters  for different occasions for use.

“Gone are the days of toggling between apps – you now have a fun and social way to share you’re in an Uber,” added Mr Amado. “This is one of the many ways we are working to ensure that we innovate to give our riders the best experience possible when riding with us.”

Uber is not new when it comes to integration well since you can hail an Uber from both Facebook Messenger and Google Maps.

The new update will be available to riders on both Android and iOS in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kampala and Dar es Salaam.
