Facebook has bought several popular networks over time and weaved them altogether in this complex weave so that they can track you all over to serve you ads.

Instagram was bought by Facebook way back in 2012 and it has grown to become a network that boast 700 million active users. Facebook spurned out Messenger to become its own semi-independent network of its own right and now has over 1.2 billion users.

Facebook has made efforts to integrate together the separate networks where you can now launch other apps on its ecosystem like Messenger, Instagram and Moves. Now they want to take that integration a notch higher with cross notifications and it is rather cool.

According to a report by TechCrunch, Facebook is testing a feature that shows notification counters from other apps (Messenger and Instagram) and will let you switch between between them.

Apparently this cross app switch interface appears when one taps the profile icons while on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. It shows a red unread counter on the right that shows the number of unread notifications for each network.

Facebook confirmed the test to the publication and issued this statement:

We are conducting a very small test to make it easier for people to discover and connect with the people and things they care about. We’re exploring was to help people switch more easily between their Facebook, Messenger and Instagram accounts.

This will be a great way for switching between the apps in the Facebook ecosystem and will save us an extra step while switching between apps.
