Twitter is usually alight when there is football since people use it as a second screen to comment about the match they are watching on the big screen.

Well yesterday, there was a Champions League fixture which was the first round of the last 16 between the German team, Bayern Munich and the English football club Arsenal. This was a highly anticipated match since they are popular teams that have a worldwide appeal.

The match however didn’t go very well for Arsenal as they were beaten by 5 goals to one by the home team and such a humiliating loss did not go unnoticed on Twitter. This led to the timeline being filled with Arsenal fans having ‘meltdowns’ about the match and also banter from fans from other teams.

Starting with the banter tweets:

Arsenal sliding out of the Champions League

Hold my beer joke

Comedy at the highest level

This is so fitting

Next season

Success to Arsenal

Same results

The same thing every year

Arsenal do not stay long on the Champions League race

Arsenal was also trolled by data guys, Opta.

4th place jokes were not left behind

Guys started trolling Arsenal account with tweets they made ago about their star player, Ozil

Bleacher Report created  a poster which included the pop culture reference to the series: Stranger Things

The Classic #WengerOut tweets didn’t go unnoticed.

Banter also came in form of video montages uploaded on Twitter

…or thanks to the Arsenal Fan TV YouTube channel videos

Even former Arsenal players seem to have had enough.

The Roll safe meme had to be used.
