Earlier today, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i made the surprise announcement that KCPE results would be announced. the move was not only unprecedented owning timings but for being major break in tradition. Ideally, KCPE results are announced in December and just after Christmas. The news caught he nation by surprise with many grappling with questions on how to access the results.
Going to your school is of course the old fashioned way that is time and money consuming, and quite inconvenient. As much as the “digital” way of checking isn’t always flawless, it’s the better way to check for these results and if the systems are not already overloaded.
To check the results digitally, one has two choices use the SMS way or go to the website and use the form to enter your index number on the site. Checking via SMS will require you to use short code 22252 where you send in the candidate index number to 22252. This applies to all networks including Safaricom, Airtel and Orange. We however learn that some carriers may not be ready as nearly everyone, including the media were caught by surprise at the speedy results announcement.
Equitel was not left behind and the mobile virtual network has also provided an option to its subscribers through sending a students index number to the same code. The KNEC website (http://knec-portal.ac.ke/) on the other hand has a dedicated portal where candidates can check their results by keying in the index number of the students in the portal.
The SMS option is charged at Kshs. 30 while the web portal option is free.
