Wananchi Group’s Zuku Hires Former Safaricom Executive as CFO

Wananchi’s Zuku has announced key appointments to its top management in a bid to improve productivity and efficiency in service delivery. The new appointments include Genue Mwaura as the Chief Finance Officer and Michael Dabaly as the Sales, Marketing and Corporate Communications Director for the Cable Division.

Wananchi Group Chief Executive Officer Santiago Benedit said the new appointments are meant to allow the firm stay ahead of the curve owing to changing customer demands and emerging market trends. “These management changes have been necessitated by the desire to keep up with the technological advancements and process enhancements”, he added.

Genue Mwaura was previously the Head of Finance Operations and Investor Relations at Safaricom. He has also previously worked in various roles at Vodacom Group South Africa and Vodafone group in the UK. He has expertise in finance and strategy in matters governance, treasury, business turnaround, business planning, financial control and management.

Mwaura holds an MBA in strategy and is a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants UK (FCCA). He is also a CPA (K), CPS and a Chartered Management Accountant. Mwaura also worked at  Coca Cola Africa and East African Breweries.

Michael  Dabaly previously worked at Zain Group in Amsterdam and later in the Middle East where he was Group Commercial Director covering 22 operations across Middle East and Africa. He has also worked at British American Tobacco and R J Reynolds East & Southern Africa. At Zuku, he will be in charge of  Cable Sales, Marketing and Corporate Communications. Michael holds a bachelor of Commerce degree and a certification in advanced management from London Business School.
