Prisma may not be as popular as current sensation Pokemon Go in the app store charts but it sure has been breaking records of its own thanks to its own take of the Instagram-induced image filter craze.
For those not in the know, Prisma is a smartphone app that allows anyone to turn their selfies into “art-level” paintings by using the power of Artificial Intelligence to make even the most awkward of moments captured on camera stand a chance of impressing Picasso’s followers.
The app, though, has been limited to the iTunes store from where iPhone users have been going to join in the fun and splash the results all over social media for everyone else to see.
Step aside, Instagram
Soon, Android users will be able to join in the fun too. Prisma, according to The Next Web, already has a beta of the Android app in place as can be seen in the screenshots below.
Being the most widely-used mobile platform in the world, the pending Android launch could drive Prisma’s user numbers through the roof and add on to its already successful iOS launch. The app is said to have over 1.5 million daily active users on iOS with 7.5 million installs from the iTunes Store and counting.
It is not clear whether this is a public or closed beta and when we’ll actually get to see the app hit the Play Store. However, some of those questions may be answered by signing up to receive more information from Prisma’s site. Hopefully, an invite to give the app a spin before it goes official comes through or the folks at APKMirror lay their hands on it soon (I’m crossing my fingers for the latter).
UPDATE
Just as I anticipated, APKMirror should be your first port of call if you are interested in giving Prisma a spin while it is still in closed beta. Details in our forums.
