After running a pre-order sales campaign for two weeks, Samsung Electronics East Africa has finally unveiled the brand’s two flagship devices for the year: the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
At an event held at the Samsung Delite shop in Nairobi, the largest Samsung brand store in East Africa which was opened in late February, the company took the wraps off what it believes will be a pair of very successful devices this year.
The two devices are upgrades of last year’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. They pack several upgraded features and specifications including a better camera module more suited for low light shots than those on their predecessors. In the case of the Galaxy S7 Edge, it even has a bigger display while still maintaining a slim profile. The two devices, however, are heavier than last year’s models. They also have a slightly curved back to make it easier to handle them as they can get quite slippery thanks to the slick Aluminium build. Both devices also have bigger batteries which guarantee several extra hours. Like last year’s models, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge can also be charged wirelessly.
Upgraded features aside, newer ones have also made the cut. These include the return of dust proofing and water resistance as well the ability to expand storage using memory cards.
Samsung managed to score a record of over 1,000 units pre-ordered over the two-week period the pre-sales campaign has been running. This can be attributed to not only the two devices’ appealing feature set but also the bundled offers that customers who pre-ordered the devices stood to enjoy. They range from free cases and portable battery packs to free internet data bundles from network operator Safaricom. A constant in all the pre-order deals through Samsung’s own 23 brand stores scattered across the country and Safaricom’s own shops is the Gear VR, a mobile virtual reality headset which Samsung was giving away for free to every customer who pre-ordered the device.
Those who missed out on the pre-order deals have one last opportunity today as everyone who purchases either the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge will get similar goodies.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge go for Kshs 75,000 and Kshs 85,000 respectively. Buyers of either device also get insurance options.
Accessories for both devices are also available at various price points.
