Targeting the retail and enterprise markets, Telkom Kenya has launched a dual play offering for both voice and data offering off its fixed line numbering plan. The solution which will be available to both its Prepay and Postpay clients will cost Kshs. 4,000 a month, thereby allowing subscribers to enjoy unlimited data with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) of 50GB on both options.
The service will be an addition to existing Home Talk and Biashara Talk services with Postpaid customers using the Biashara Talk Dual Play while prepaid clients will use Home Talk Dual Play option. Both options will be offfered on a single subscription package to voice and data service clientele. The Biashara Talk Dual Play offers customers get 50GB, and 10 hours talk time while customers on the Home Talk Dual Play service get 50GB of data with eight hours talk time. The talk time allows for local and international calls to the USA, UK, Canada, India and China and international SMSs to all destinations.
Customers will be able to access voice services, through a desktop telephone and data, through an Orange Flybox router under one billing account. Subscribers will be able to check their consumption (for both voice and data) using the USSD code *222#. The bundle will be valid for 30 days, after which a customer will forfeit any unused voice and data bundles. The service comes at time when fixed lines customers has been on the decline. According to the Communications Authority of Kenya quartely report, the number of fixed lines was recorded at 87,774 down from 202,961. The huge decline is as a result of termination of the fixed wireless service by Telkom Kenya (Orange) earlier in the quarter.
