We expected Samsung to unveil three devices during the just concluded Unpacked event. We got them. Sort of. Since the company’s top executives took the stage to unveil the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+, there was one unmentioned device: the Gear smartwatch. We weren’t left hanging as such since the upcoming smartwatch made an appearance in on one of the slides in all its circular glory.

We also finally have a name to match a device that we had come to know by its codename, Orbis, and was previously rumoured to be the Gear A. It will arrive in another name: Gear S2. That makes sense since Samsung’s last smartwatch efforts yielded the Gear S. This implies the continuity of the product line.

September 3rd is not far off and we expect the Gear S2 to show up rocking these specifications. While we’ve recently heard that the Gear S2 will arrive in various versions likely to cater for different segments of the market like rival Apple is doing with its Watch, there were no such hints dropped today and we’ll have to wait and see what transpires in the lead up to the official unveiling at IFA 2015 in Berlin.

The Gear S2 is expected to be the first Samsung wearable device with support for its mobile payments service, Samsung Pay.
