It is confirmed! Well at least according to Sammobile‘s sources. Samsung will be officially announcing the second to-market Tizen smartphone, the Samsung Z3, at its Tizen Developer Conference in the Indian city of Bengaluru next week.
Like we had heard before, the Samsung Z3 is expected to feature a newer version of Tizen (3.0). Expected specifications as we had stated before are as follows:
- a 5 inch HD Super AMOLED display
- a 1.3 GHz quad-core Spreadtrum SC7730S processor
- 8 GB internal storage (expandable via microSD); 1.5 GB RAM
- 8 megapixel main camera with LED flash and auto-focus; 5 MP selfie camera
- a 2600 mAh battery
The biggest reveal however is not the launch date since we highly expected that to happen. It is the countries where the Z3 will be available in at first. The Samsung Z3 will go on sale in India and neighbouring Bangladesh and Nepal. Bangladesh and India had the honour of being the only markets where the Z3’s predecessor, the Samsung Z1, was available and since it sold well, it makes a lot of sense to debut the Z3 there. Plus Indian developers have contributed heavily to the growth of the Tizen ecosystem. According to Samsung, 50% of the applications in the Tizen app store are by Indian developers. With Samsung having opened the Tizen app store to anyone around the world, uptake in other markets is expected if and when Samsung introduces Tizen phones there.
