Samsung opens up Tizen app store

Samsung Z1 Tizen

Samsung is making its Tizen application store accessible in more markets other than India and Bangladesh where its only Tizen smartphone in the market so far, the Samsung Z1, is selling.

While the move may have been planned for a long time, it is curious coming at this time and could be indicative of the company’s plans for Tizen as a platform powering some of its smartphones. We are already expecting the company to follow up the $100 Z1 with another equally priced but upgraded smartphone, the Z2, any time now. Opening up the Tizen Store to users may mean there are plans for a wider roll out of Tizen smartphones.

Samsung is using Tizen not just on the entry-level Z1 but its Gear smartwatches and all its smart televisions as well.
