According to an unnamed source who talked to The Wall Street Journal, Korean electronics giant LG will next year release a smartwatch running on the WebOS platform.
This will mark a departure from the current setup where LG’s smartwatches are run on Google’s Android Wear platform. It is not yet known if LG will go the Sony and Samsung route of having its smartwatches run on various platforms. Samsung for instance has its Gear smartwatches running on both Tizen and Android Wear.
LG acquired the famed Palm’s WebOS from HP and is already using it to power its smart TV lineup. It has no known plans, however, of using it on smartphones.
