Nigeria is where they are big while markets like Kenya, Ghana, South Africa and Ethiopia also being very huge for them. They have released several phones ever since they moved to Android from selling dumb phones which were, back in the day considered knock-offs. This has since changed and they are very serious players in the industry. Their wide range of smartphones, distribution and aggressive pricing making them quite dominant.

Tecno has previously teased that they will be unveiling yet another Android smartphone, with a very huge “Z” and messaging about speed of the device. Going by an un-official teaser video below, claims to launch the smartphone running their first Octa-core processor in a phone. Tecno phones are very big with Mediatek that the latter will be sending representatives for the launch in Nairobi which happens in a few days.

It’s expected that the Tecno Phantom Z will come running an Octa Core Mediatek Processor 16MP rear camera, 8MP front, 4000mAh battery, 16GB internal memory, 2GB RAM and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean all in a 5.5 inch display. As is the case with all Tecno devices, aggressive pricing will also back this specs sheet up making it quite a strong player, despite running an Android version that is over a year old in a world that already has 2 more Android versions, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Android 4.4 KitKat.

It will be interesting to hear about the software update policy from the boss himself for Tecno Phantom Z and other devices released in the near past. That includes whether they have plans to ensure hardware compatibility with the many applications available to the device courtesy of Google Play.
