I’m equally baffled too. That’s a first.
The ink on news that LG’s 2013 flagship, the G2, will be getting its Android 4.4 KitKat update in late Q1 is barely dry and now this!
According to posts on Korean forums, the LG G2 in that country is already getting a 4.4 update and there are screenshots to that effect. The update is already seeding in Korea and it should be just a few steps using LG’s Update Tool on your PC to get the same on your device too while those locked to carrier plans will have to wait for a few more days (you’re damned if it is months!) to get their candy bars ready.
So far this news brings a tinge of faith in LG’s ability to support its devices even though some notable LG devices like last year’s Optimus G still remain on Android 4.1.2 and the company acting silent regarding update plans for its other devices like the Optimus G. LG’s competitor Samsung has always delayed in delivering updates but makes sure that its devices (at least the high end ones) get an update no matter how long it takes. The Galaxy S III, Optimus G’s equal, has received at least 2 major updates (Android 4.0.4 – Android 4.1.2 and another that upgraded it from 4.2 to 4.3).
