There are a number of independently funded software projects under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation and Xen Hypervisor is now one of them. The Foundation will be providing guidance, infrastructure and a collaborative network with the support of Citrix, Amazon Web Services, Google, Oracle, Cisco and other companies. Xen is a Citrix community project that has gained over 10 million users in the last decade.
The project has been receiving contributions from a wide group of companies. Linux Foundation was chosen because it will provide a neutral forum for the participation of these companies. Some of the recent contributions that highlight Xen’s development include improvements to Nested Virtualization from Intel, extensions to the Xen Project Security Modules by the National Security Agency and performance and scalability improvements by SUSE.
