Nokia Announces Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 at MWC

Nokia Lumia 720

Nokia has just announced the fourth and fifth of their global Windows phone 8 Lumias. These are mid range Lumia 720 and low end Lumia 520.

Lumia 720 is a 4.3 inch WVGA (800 x 480)- 217 ppi windows phone 8 device running a 1GHz Dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. Memory is 512 MB RAM and 8GB internal storage expandable via microSD to 64GB and the complimentary 7GB skydrive. With dimensions of 67.5 x 127.9 x 9mm, it weighs 128 grams. From the dimensions you can pick that it is 9mm thick. The rear camera is 6.7MP 2848 x 2144p (the first camera I know to have decimals in their pixels) and the front camera being 1.3MP at 1280 x 960p.

Phone camera features include 4x zoom, autofocus with two stage capture key, Carl Zeiss lens, LED Flash, touch focus, cinemagraph lens, Bing Vision, Smart Hoot lens and panorama lens. The phone’s aspect ratio is 15:9 and the phone’s display is IPS clear black with super sensitive touch and some nice words like Orientation sensor, High Brightness mode, Sunlight readability enhancements, Color boosting, Corning® Gorilla® Glass, Ambient light sensor, Sculpted glass. It runs on microSIM and like the predecessors, it has a dedicated camera key, lock key nand volume keys on the sides.

Connectivity options are Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, NFC (sharing and tagging for NFC) but misses Wi-Fi sharing. It can do speeds of 21Mbps HSDPA on WCDMA and 5.76 down. The battery is 2000m Ah giving a talktime of 13hrs on 3G, 23 on 2G. Wireless charging factored in but you will have to include the charging plate.
Media details include Nokie Mix, Nokia radio apps, video at 720p 30fps, video formats: MP3, AMR-NB, WMA 10 Pro, GSM FR, WMA 9, AAC LC, AAC+/HEAAC, eAAC+/HEAACv2 and audio formats: ASF, MP4, AAC, AMR, MP3, M4A, WMA, 3GP, 3G2.

Lumia 520 on the other hand is a 4 inch WVGA (800 x 480)- 235 ppi windows phone 8 device running a 1GHz Dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. Memory is 512 GB RAM and 8GB internal storage expandable via microSD to 64GB and 7GB skydrive. With dimensions of 64 x 119.9 x 9.9mm, it weighs 124 grams.

The rear camera is 5MP 2592 x 1936p, no front camera. Phone camera features include 4x digital zoom, no flash, touch focus, cinemagraph lems, Bing vision, Smart Shoot Lens and Panorama Lens. The phone’s aspect ratio is 15:9 and the phone’s display is IPS clear black with super sensitive touch, Brightness control, Orientation sensor and Ambient light sensor.

It runs on microSIM and like the predecessors, it has a dedicated camera key, lock key and volume keys on the sides. Connectivity options are Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi. It can do speeds of 21Mbps HSDPA on WCDMA and 5.76 down. The battery is 1430mAh giving a talktime of 19hrs on 3G, 14.8 on 2G.

Starting at pricing of 249 Euros for the Lumia 720 and 139 Euros for the Lumia 520, you can see who each is targeting. Lumia 720 will be available in Singapore within this quarter and other markets in second quarter. Lumia 520 on the other hand will show up in Hong Kong first in this quarter and roll out in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa in second quarter. Colours include Red, White, Cyan, Yellow and Black for both devices.
